High producing dairy
cows perform best in well-ventilated, cooler environments,
free from high temperature heat stress. Fabric curtains
have long proven to be an economical solution to controlling
these large adjustable side wall openings. Curtain side
walls have been used on free stall dairies for many years
but the methods of installation, choice of operating
hardware and fabric have not always resulted
in a totally satisfactory result.
With experience gained
over almost twenty years Faromor has
developed superior curtain systems to provide dairymen
throughout North America with practical solutions. To
help you identify the product most suitable for
your application we have classified our fabric curtain
systems as below. We present a photo and brief description
of each.

Breeze-TD
Standard
Top Down (TD) curtains
are permanently fastened at the bottom of the opening
and lowered (opened) from the top. In cold weather the
initial air enters high on the side wall to ensure ventilation
with minimum draft.

However, permanent 'bunching' of these larger (8ft and
greater) dairy curtains permits water accumulation and
rodent infestation in the fabric folds and has discouraged
their acceptance. Dig

Top
Down-Summer Roll Up
operated
curtains have the same advantage of a high cold air entry
point but permits the curtain to be neatly rolled and stored
for the summer season. This eliminates the problem of water
accumulation and rodent infestation thereby extending the
life expectancy of the product.

The
curtains are normally fastened at the bottom in winter
and released to be rolled up in the late spring for permanent
storage until late fall when needed again. Dig

Breeze-BRU
Bottom
Roll-Up Only (BRU) curtains
open from the bottom up by wrapping itself around a bottom
attached rotating aluminum tubular pipe. As the pipe rolls
the curtain supports the weight of the pipe keeping it
under tension as
it raises.

The system eliminates the need for lift cables and pulleys
which give rise to maintenance problems and constant vigilance
on large barns. It also provides all the advantages of
eliminating water entrapment, rodent infestation and storage
under the building overhang protecting from ultra-violet degradation.

Breeze Roll-a-Way
Roll-a-Way
(RAW) curtains have a
permanently mounted bottom aluminum roller tube. As the
curtain lowers from the top down the excess curtain material
continually wraps on the rolling tube thereby eliminating
the water entrapment and rodent infestation.

These Roll-a-Way curtains
offer the advantage of an initial opening high on the side
wall which will accommodate application of large single
piece curtains with minimal wind noise. Dig

Split System
RAW-BRU

Split
Curtain Systems
Split
Curtain System is the application
of two piece curtains on the side wall of the freestall
dairy. They can be installed as any combinations of the
above described curtain types. For example, the upper curtain
could be a Roll-a-Way
(RAW) and the lower curtain a Bottom
Roll-Up (BRU).

The reason for splitting these curtains is to make them smaller and more convenient
to manage. Larger curtains will have the tendency to flap more in the wind resulting
in noise and extra wear on the curtain at contact points with the wind supports.
Should you have damage to one curtain section it eliminates the need to replace
the total building curtain system.

We consider the lower curtain as a ‘temporary wall' which is usually down through-out
most of the winter and totally open all summer. For this reason the lower curtain
often is operated manually whereas the upper is often operated automatically.

Split System
BRU/BRU
|
In the case of a
split curtain where both are Bottom-Roll-Up
Curtains ,
for example, it ensures the winter air enters at a higher
level minimizing drafts. This has become a popular concept
for large free stall barns where the elimination of cables
and pulleys assures a simpler installation with much
less routine maintenance--a plus for those owners depending
upon employees to manage their barns.

This system is available for either manual or fully automated
operations. Dig

Breeze Lift-Up (LU-C)
Lift
Up (LU-C) Curtains start opening from
the bottom which give them the advantage of self-storing
at the top free from previously cited problems of water
and rodents.

These curtains
permanently mount at the top and are lowered via stainless
lift cables that pass through grommet tabs which are stitched
to the curtain face. This ensures the curtain tidily folds
as it is raised and into the fully raised position. Dig
