Warm moist air must
be exhausted from the dairy barn. This is effectively
accomplished by using the buoyancy of warmer air to rise
and exit at the highest point—usually
the ridge. This simple concept of fixed open ridge is
still widely employed.
Disadvantages of open ridge designs
has been addressed by several Faromor innovations
and adaptations over the years. These products utilize
the buoyancy of warm air and external wind effects on
the structure to optimize air exchange to maintain uniform
environmental temperature.

Faromor FRP Chimney
|
Faromor
FRP Chimney
Dairy producers increasingly embrace
the Faromor
FRP Chimney as a superior ridge exhaust aperture.
Higher air exit velocity of the chimney is achieved with
less ridge opening resulting in a more equal exchange
throughout the structure and elimination of down-drafts,
precipitation & dripping over feed alley & excessive
summer sunlight that can discourage cows from the feed
manger.
In colder geographical regions (Canada & the
Northeast USA ) the Faromor
FRP Chimney is a good choice for free stall
barns. In all geographical regions the advantage of the
FRP chimney for optimal environmental control suggests
it as the better product choice for parlor and holding
areas. Dig

Solar Mechanical
“Sun Ridge”
|
Mechanical “Sun
Ridge”
Faromor recognizes
the advantage of an non-restricted open ridge
for maximum air exchange. To retain this advantage,
permit light entry, and yet exclude unwanted entry of rain or snow,
Faromor has developed its ‘Sun
Ridge’ design.
This ridge can be restricted from
fully closed to 2-3 ft of opening with the touch of a
button. In more restricted positions, rain and snow entry
is minimized yet in a fully open position maximum
air exchange of an unrestricted ridge is assured.

Solar Dome
|
Solar
Dome
Faromor fabricates a ridge dome cover to keep out the elements, permit the entry of natural
light and provide ridge exhaust.
The Faromor
Solar Dome maintains the simplicity
of an open ridge but minimizes negative effects of downdrafts
and rain/snow entry.

Over-Shot Roof
|
Over-Shot
Roof
This concept of an open
ridge has
proven to be effective and is traditionally used in the Northeastern, USA . An effective performance is dependent upon a prevailing
wind direction. Sudden change in wind direction (such as easterly
storms) can permit excessive ventilation and objectionable snow entry.
Faromor has
designed and adapted small ridge curtains and baffle
systems to exclude negative effects due to adverse wind
direction. Faromor does not promote this design but is prepared to offer customer solutions to improve the performance of these designs upon request. Dig
